Journalsim and Media Internship in Ecuador  - Latin America

This internship program is designed primarily for undergraduate or graduate students and beginning professionals who have an academic or professional background in some area of media communication, journalism or related fields and who seek to enhance their careers through specialized study in one or several selected areas. The purpose of this internships program is to provide students with the opportunity to gain professional experience in a journalism setting. Our internship program offers interns or students the opportunity to develop their skills, gain a deeper understanding of the professional context of journalism practice, and make connections with working journalists.

Journalism interns or students with majors or minors can work on newspapers, in the broadcast (TV. or radio stations), and on many magazines, as well as in agencies concerned with public relations. In short, our journalism internship program set you on the right track.

This is an ideal opportunity for a journalism student or graduate who is looking to write and get published. Apart from the personal reward of working for a responsible media company, you will gain valuable experience in international journalism as part of your journalism internship.

Internship Role

You will participate in the workaday routine of a news media company for the specified period, undertaking those tasks assigned to you and seeking to display initiative, enthusiasm, professionalism and a willingness to learn. Depending on your specialty and skills, you can work as a reporter, writing, editor, photographer, broadcaster, or graphic designer. You'll work side-by-side with the regular staff, gathering stories, researching, taking photos, writing pieces, going into the field, coming up with your own story ideas, projects, etc.

Skills/Qualifications

Although our opportunity is open to college students, undergraduate, recent graduate students and young professionals. No previous experience is mandatory although it could be very helpful. Nevertheless, an intermediate level of Spanish is required.

Internship Location

Our professional journalism and media internship and training program is located in Quito, Ambato, Ibarra, Latacunga, Puerto Lopez and Galapagos.

Accommodation and Meals

During the stay in the program, interns will live with a carefully screened host family which will provide with a single, clean, modest, comfortable and safe room as well as local meals three times a day. No lunch on Sundays.

Dates, Duration and Application Deadline

This internship opportunity runs all year-round for 9-24 weeks in length and start every Monday so interns should arrive 1 or 2 days early. Interns choose their own start dates. Applications are accepted up to 4 weeks prior to departure or start date.

Pick-up/Meeting

Interns will be met outside the airport terminal by an ELEP representative holding a placard with your name on it. Please provide us your flight information up to 2 weeks prior departing from your home-country so that a punctual pick-up/meeting can be arranged.

Internship Program Cost: 1150 for 9 weeks. Every extra week is $ 105
